The Obstacle is the Way

I’m a big fan of Stoic philosophy, and this book by Ryan Holiday is well worth a read for anyone, no matter what your field is. I really believe it will help anyone to improve their mindset! πŸ™Œ

The book provides a framework composed of three disciplines: perception, action and will.

The pivotal theme is based on a quote from Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius – in his journal turned book Meditations (also an excellent book) – which reads:

β€œThe impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”

– Marcus Aurelius

What this framework teaches us is the mindset required to flip problems into success, and ultimately be better for it. That the obstacles along our path are in fact necessary to become the type of person who is able to reach the goal at the end of the path. 😁

Whether you apply this to your professional life, or personal life the principles remain the same and benefit you just as greatly. Learning to see your day-to-day problems as obstacles that actually help you to grow and achieve your goals is a monumental shift. One that I hope you take too. πŸ‘

I’m not saying that it’s easy, of course, there will be days and problems that seem insurmountable. But, if we persevere, then what stands in our way, becomes the way forward and we will be better for it. πŸ’ͺ
